It’s too easy to get caught up in the downside of life – that scarcity that seems to overshadow everything.
Personally, it translates to fixating on my looming debt, the daunting tasks on my to-do list, and the occasional letdown in my personal relationships.
The catch? Diving head first into the negative creates a never-ending loop. Thoughts steer our actions, and our actions create our outcomes. So, when you’re knee-deep in negativity – guess what?
You’re just planting seeds for more of the same.

THE POWER OF SYMBOLS
Ever catch yourself doodling a smiley face during a boring meeting or feeling a surge of confidence when you put your lucky socks on?
That’s the power of symbols working their subtle magic on our minds!
Humans have this thing for symbols; they’re like shortcuts for our brain, telling us how to feel or what to focus on. Whether it’s a doodle, a peace sign, a heart emoji, or a money tree, symbols have a way of sneaking into our subconscious.
Which also means that symbols have this uncanny ability to shape our thoughts and set the tone for our intentions.
Why? Well here’s a quick breakdown of how symbols – especially the money tree plant – impact our mindset:
- Cognitive associations: symbols often trigger connections in our brain which can evoke specific emotions and thought patterns
- Example: the image of a heart is commonly associated with love and affection
- Visual communication: symbols can transcend language barriers, so a simple image can convey complex ideas, values, or concepts, allowing for effective communication
- Example: everybody knows what a peace sign means
- Emotional resonance: symbols can elicit feelings based on personal or cultural experiences
- Example: a national flag may elicit feelings of pride
- Cultural significance: symbols can embody shared values, beliefs, and traditions which lead to a sense of identity and community, thereby influencing how we perceive ourselves and our place in society
- Example: the Yin and Yang symbol which shows a balance between two opposing elements for the Chinese culture
- Behavioral impact: exposure to symbols can act as cues, guiding us towards specific actions or responses
- Example: a company logo can shape consumer perceptions and after-purchasing decisions
- Mindfulness and focus: by concentrating on a specific symbol, we can direct our thoughts, find relaxation, and enhance concentration
- Example: meditation practices
- Motivation: symbols can inspire us to pursue our goals
- Example: the money tree
- Influence on beliefs: symbols contribute to the formation of and reinforcement of beliefs and values
- Example: religious symbols reinforce religion
- Identity: personal symbols can be expressions for self-expression and provide us with a way to communicate our personality, interests, or affiliations to the world
- Example: tattoos
To sum it up, symbols act as tools that tap into the intricate web of human cognition, emotions, and behaviors. Whether ancient or contemporary, these visual representations hold the capacity to shape our mindset in really profound ways that we usually don’t even notice.

THE IMPACT OF THE MONEY TREE
Enter the money tree plant – the essence of symbolic greenery. It might not come with a guarantee for instant riches, but it does bring a refreshing vibe of prosperity to the table.
So let’s unpack that breakdown above and better understand why the money tree is more than just an aesthetic addition to your plant collection, shall we?
“What blooms from beautiful seeds of thought becomes a symphony of colorful abundance.” – Jazz Feylynn
Well, there’s 3 main reasons the money tree is such a powerful mindset tool (beyond just the name itself, of course); it:
- Is rooted in cultures
- Offers a visual affirmation and cue
- Flows positive energy
ROOTED IN CULTURES
The money tree isn’t just a more recent trend, but has roots that go way, way back.
In several traditions, they say that the money tree attracts good luck, prosperity, and positive energy, which is why it’s a popular choice in homes and businesses alike.
Its 5 distinctive leaves are thought to represent the 5 elements of Feng Shui, adding an even extra layer of cultural significance (and a fun fact!).
So if the idea of the money tree bringing abundance has sprung up across the globe, then the money tree probably is pretty powerful, wouldn’t you say?
OFFERS A VISUAL AFFIRMATION & CUE
Thanks to its cultural roots, the money tree is also seen as a symbol of growth and success.
The interconnected branches are believed to signify unity and the continuous flow of positive energy. I mean, just looking at the beautifully braided stump and the tiny leaves beginning to bloom reinforces the idea that your plant is ushering in a season of abundance!
So get this: every time you glance at those vibrant leaves, you’re sending an empowering message to your brain. The message says that abundance is growing, and you’re the one nurturing it.
From personal experience, I know that actually watching a baby tree grow and blossom is empowering as hell, especially when you notoriously don’t have the greenest of thumbs like me!
(So yes, this plant is also pretty easy to care for;)
Here’s what my money tree looked like when I first got it and now, just a few months later:
In essence, the money tree isn’t just an echo of ancient beliefs. Nope, it’s a statement.
Placing this green wonder in your living space is an intentional embrace of the vibes associated with well-being.
The money tree plant is a visual cue that says:
“Hey, universe! I’m open to abundance, and I’m ready for the good stuff!!”
FLOWS POSITIVE ENERGY
Many (myself included) believe in the concept of positive energy flow, and the money tree is thought to play a role in enhancing this flow within a space.
By placing the plant strategically, it becomes a focal point, drawing attention to the idea of abundance. That’s why I have mine in my living/dining room on the table (pictured below).
My point: it’s not just about decoration! It’s about consciously directing attention to the positive vibes associated with abundance.
But let’s dig even deeper…
In Feng Shui – an ancient Chinese practice of harmonizing individuals with their surrounding environment – the money tree holds a special spot.
It’s 5 leaves are associated with the 5 elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water), meaning that the leaves create this harmonious balance that can positively influence the energy circulating in a room.
Aka the money tree balances the room’s energy – how cool is that?!
All in all, they money tree transcends its role as a mere ornament. It’s a dynamic visual element, a green ally reminding us daily to stay focused on our aspirations, fostering positive energy, and creating an environment where the pursuit of abundance is not just a goal but a constant, flourishing presence.
FROM SCARCITY TO ABUNDANCE
Now that we’ve explored the symbolism and impact of the money tree plant, let’s dive into how this leafy buddy becomes a catalyst for a profound shift in mindset.
But why even shift your mindset at all?
“When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” – Lao Tzu
Cuz when you’re in a scarcity mindset, it can manifest into every life domain. The fear and anxiety that comes from the belief you don’t have enough to meet your needs or goals can truly become debilitating.
Just to clarify, having a scarcity mindset means that you:
- Hyper-focus on what’s lacking
- Avoid risks
- Compare yourself to others
- Make decisions based on short-term needs
- Hoard/cling to the past, time, money, and/or possessions
- Experience chronic stress
If you think about our caveman days, everything was scarce. So it’s really no surprise that our brains are wired this way since that’s how we actually ended up surviving and evolving.
Thing is, our world has evolved way faster than our brains have, so our brains still think the world is scarce even though it’s not.
All is to say, having a scarcity mindset is not your fault. But now that you’ve boosted your awareness, you can take the steps to overcome it and shift into an abundant mindset.
When you can focus on what you have rather than lack, you can approach life with a more optimistic outlook and, in return, will earn more positive results. And just to clarify, an abundant mindset means that you:
- Practice gratitude
- Believe that there’s ample chances for growth, success, and fulfillment both personally and professionally
- Are generous with time and resources
- Embrace challenges
- Take risks
- Plan ahead for the long-term
- Adapt well to changing circumstances
- Focus on what is (not what isn’t)
I honestly bought my money tree as a promise to myself to leave the scarcity mindset behind. And I’ll be the first to admit that it hasn’t been easy, but with each step I take forward I really do feel happier and more fulfilled.
The money tree, standing tall in its pot, challenges the notion of scarcity that lingers in our minds. How?
Don’t forget that the power of symbols lies in their ability to subtly influence our thoughts. So, the money tree, with its lush greenery and cultural significance, becomes a gentle nudge toward embracing an abundant mindset.
Its presence acts as a daily prompt, encouraging us to think beyond limitations and to consider the boundless opportunities around us. The money tree becomes a tangible representation of the abundance that is within reach.
To put it simply, there’s 2 main mindset nudges the money tree offers:
- Creating optimism
- Creating daily rituals of gratitude

Plants, in general, have a remarkable ability to affect our mood and mindset.
The act of caring for a living organism can instigate a shift in perspective. As we nurture the plant, we also nurture a mindset that sees growth, potential, and the abundance of possibilities.
So in the backdrop of everyday life, the money tree becomes a little ally, reminding us to approach life with optimism. Its presence encourages us to focus on what’s thriving and growing, fostering a positive outlook that is fundamental to attracting abundance.
“Gratitude is one of the strongest and most transformative states of being. It shifts your perspective from lack to abundance and allows you to focus on the good in your life, which in turn pulls more goodness into your reality.” – Jen Sincero
Basically by acknowledging and appreciating the growth of this plant, we slowly dismantle the mental barriers that may have hindered seeing the ample opportunities life has to offer.
CREATING DAILY RITUALS OF GRATITUDE
The routine of caring for the money tree transforms into a daily ritual of abundance. I mean, there’s something so therapeutic about tending to a living thing. (I’m clearly not a parent yet!)
Watering the plant, checking its leaves, and ensuring it receives enough sunshine becomes an act of mindfulness. I’ve even turned saying hi my money tree in the morning into its own little ritual.
I take the moment daily to pause, reflect, and express gratitude for all of the growth in my life. So think about this moment as a chance for you to stop looking at what’s scarce and actually remind yourself of what is there.
You can also express gratitude for what you anticipate to arrive in the future. Future days, months, years, it doesn’t really matter, but thanking your lucky stars for not just where you are now, but where you’re going.
These simple actions of gratitude reinforce the idea that abundance is not a distant goal but a daily practice – a series of small, intentional steps toward cultivating prosperity.
Basically, nurturing your plant can symbolically become nurturing your own abundance. Which is why every time a new leaf begins to grow and a branch gets just a wee bit longer, I get soo excited!
I view the fact that my tree is growing as a sign that I’m also growing. And when I see a new leaf, I see it as a new opportunity making its way to me.
And this primes my brain to be open to new experiences coming my way, helping me actually achieve the abundance that I’m looking for.
So, as you nurture your money tree, recognize that it’s not just about tending to a plant; it’s about nurturing an abundant mindset.
With each leaf that unfurls and every drop of water that quenches its thirst, you’re participating in a transformation – a shift from scarcity to a mindset where abundance becomes a flourishing reality, one leaf at a time.
HOW TO NURTURE AN ABUNDANT MINDSET
While the money tree holds a special place in symbolism’s heart, it’s essential to understand that true abundance is not confined to the presence of this plant!
So how about we journey beyond the greenery and explore a holistic approach needed to foster an abundant mindset, yeah?
To really make the shift from scarcity to abundance, there’s 6 areas you gotta focus on (and don’t worry, they overlap a ton):
- Personal development
- Intentional actions
- Positive thoughts and affirmations
- Setting intentions
- Openness to opportunities

Let me be clear: the money tree is only magical when partnered with a commitment to personal growth.
A big reason we fall victim to the scarcity mindset is because there’s an uncertainty involved, and we view this uncertainty as something that’s lacking.
“You must find a place within yourself where nothing is impossible.” – Deepak Chopra
So if you’re feeling scarce, that probably means that there’s something to learn. Investing time in self-improvement, learning new skills, and expanding your knowledge are foundational steps towards cultivating an abundance mindset since the more you know, the more abundant you’ll feel.
Which means that as you evolve, so does your capacity to seize the opportunities in front of you and navigate the pathways to prosperity.
And the commitment to personal development must start now, before you even buy that money tree plant.
Once you’ve committed to growing yourself, its gotta manifest into your actions.
Abundance isn’t just a state of mind – it’s a result of intentional actions. They key is to align your intentional actions with your aspirations which, in this case, is to boost abundance.
And setting clear goals, creating plans, and taking consistent steps towards those objectives is how you align your actions with your aspirations.
As you take your steps, the money tree becomes a companion on your journey, a silent encourager to persevere through challenges and celebrate the small wins that pave the road to abundance.
But what are those steps that you and your money tree can take to inch closer to abundance? Keep on reading to find out!

POSITIVE THOUGHTS & AFFIRMATIONS
As I touched on before, the money tree serves as a reminder to cultivate optimism and positive thoughts.
But how can you actually do this?
A big part of embracing an abundant mindset involves replacing limiting beliefs with affirmations that reinforce the idea of abundance.
So come up with a handful of affirmations (empowering “I am” statements) to say each time you’re watering your money tree. For example, I say:
- I am nurturing our growth 1 drop at a time.
- I am so thankful for the baby leaves sprouting and the trunk’s growth.
- I am so grateful that I’ve grown in (fill in the blank here) this past week.
- I am so excited to see how far we will go.
- I am ready for the growth we will experience this upcoming week.
When you say your affirmations, try to mean them as much as possible. Talk to your money tree as if its listening (cuz it is!) and care about your own growth as much as you care about the plant’s.
Turn watering your tree and saying these affirmations into its own ritual, and pretty soon every time you glance at your tree you’ll automatically think these empowering, positive thoughts.
Watering your money tree is also a phenomenal time to set your intentions for the week (or until you water your plant next).
Remember that as you care for the plant, you’re actively participating in a ritual of transformation and abundance. But you don’t want that to just stop once you’ve finished watering!
So as you water your plant, and after you say those affirmations, take a moment to decide how you’re going to embody abundance a little differently. Then, the next time you water your tree, let it know how your last intention went and set a new one.
By the way, you could totally set the same intention several times in a row until you’ve fulfilled it, which is what I normally do!
“Keep your best wishes close to your heart, and watch what happens.” – Tony DeLiso
So for example, my last 3 intentions have been:
- I focus on what is there, not what is lacking, by practicing gratitude and my replacements for self-limiting beliefs.
- I stay grounded in the present moment by meditating and not overthinking.
- I embrace challenges by remembering my motivation and focusing on my vision for the future.
That way, just like how those affirmations work, every time you even look at your money tree, you’re reminded of why you bought it in the first place and feel a surge of motivation to make abundance your reality.
OPENNESS TO OPPORTUNITIES
Now I’m gonna be honest here: a requirement for fostering abundance is to be open to new opportunities – even the opportunities that you don’t think are opportunities at first!
When we’re stuck in a scarcity mindset, we can easily overlook opportunities because they lack something that we think we need, even though we probably don’t. The opportunity might not be exactly what we hoped for, an option B, or something totally new, but we say “no” since we’re hyper-focused on what’s not there.
But the money tree, with its upward-reaching branches, signals receptivity.
Embracing a mindset that sees possibilities and welcomes new experiences positions you to attract the kind of opportunities that you want, the kind that helps you grow both personally and professionally.
So the next time you have an opportunity, slow down and actually think it through. Ask yourself:
- What do I get from this opportunity?
- What can I learn by saying “yes” to this opportunity?
- Will saying “yes” push me closer to my vision for the future, or farther away?
- What will I turn down by saying “no” to this opportunity?
- Am I comfortable turning this down?
Not all opportunities are a right fit, and that’s a good thing!!
My point is to, at the very least, fully vet your opportunities so you can make a mindful decision that boosts your abundance, not belittles it.
Keep in mind that abundance isn’t a passive state, but an active, dynamic engagement with life.
That means that true abundance extends beyond just you or just me and into the community around us.
Building connections, collaborating with others, and contributing to a collective vision amplifies the impact of abundance. And the money tree beautifully symbolizes a point of connection, fostering a sense of unity and shared aspirations.
“True abundance isn’t based on our net worth; it’s based on our self-worth.” – Gabrielle Bernstein
This is actually why I put my money tree in my living/dining room – so it benefits both my boyfriend and me.
Now that we live together, we have hopes and dreams for our future together, and the money tree reminds the both of us that having this abundant mindset is how we’re going to get there.
So if you live with a partner and/or kids, let the money tree be a catalyst for action for you all. Take turns watering the plant, set intentions together, create whatever rituals work for you all; whatever you do, involve those around you so you grow into abundance together.
And I’d be honored if we grew together, too! Sign up for my weekly texts below and text me anytime for tailored advice and to share your wins!
It’s clear that the money tree is more than just a plant; it’s a little green buddy for your journey into an abundant mindset.
As you know, the power of symbols lies in their ability to gently guide our thoughts and intentions. The money tree plant has become a shared emblem of positivity, growth, and well-being, with its presence serving as a constant visual reminder to shift our mindset from scarcity to abundance.
But don’t forget that finding true abundance is a holistic approach that extends beyond the symbolism of the plant.
It involves a commitment to personal development, intentional actions, and a mindset of gratitude and openness. You gotta train in those positive thoughts and affirmations, set your intentions, and work towards a collective vision so the abundance is truly worth it.
And the money tree is your reminder that, as you nurture its growth, you’re simultaneously nurturing your own potential.
